Children ages 10 to 12 need a little over 9 hours of shuteye a night. But it's up to parents to judge the exact amount of rest their children need and see that they're in bed in time for sufficient sleep.
Lack of sleep for kids can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and can also make a condition like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) worse.

Honestly it can vary, depending on a few factors. How much energy she expressed during the day, if she is going through a growth spurt, maybe shes under some stress for a test or having a social problem with a friend at school. What Im saying is there is no real set amount of time allotted for kids. Could be anywhere from 8 to 10. Her body will let you and her know what she needs. If your having trouble getting her up in the morning put her to bed an hour earlier each night. Her sleep pattern will change throughout her teenage years so get ready! If you notice her sleeping excessivly like 12 hours or more for more then 2 weeks at a time , you may need to see a doctor for a number of sleep disorders to many to name or goin into at this time, but most likely its not one of these just a case of "sleepy headedness" *smile*

It does depend on the individual to an extent but I believe 8 to 10 hours a night is the recommended amount. Puberty is tough 12 year olds need their sleep.

A 12 years old girl need 9 to 10 hours for sleep.
The sleep required depends on the age and lifestyle of a person. Most people slept less than 4.5 hours and this causes health problems. The best survival was found among those who slept about eight hours a night.I found the information at:
http://nosleep.in/sleeprequired.html useful.

Anywheres between 6-9 hours you actually dont want to sleep 8hrs because then you are actully interrupting a sleep cycle which occurs about ever 90 minute time periods. Also as you get older you will actaully need less hours of sleep because the reproduction of new brain cell growth is slowing down
