It depends on the cutoff date in your state. I am in Arkansas and the cutoff date is Sept 15th. My daughter's birthday is August 8 and she could go in 2007, but I am choosing to hold her out another year. Teachers here say that with a child who turns 5 so close to school starting, they have a higher risk of repeating kindergarten or have troubles socially in later grades - like 3rd or 4th. My daughter is smart enough to start school in August 2007, but I don't feel that she is socially ready - she will be more calm and more mature and ready when she is 6. Ask some teachers in your area what their thoughts are on your child starting in 2007! Good Luck!

Aug 4th of what year????? In Canada they go to junior kindergarten in September as long as they turn 4 before the end of that school year. So a child born in Jan. of 2002 and a child born in DEC. of 2002 would have started school this past Sept. in the same class.

If he was born on Aug. 4, 2002 he could start kindergarten in 2007. But you do not have to start him until 2008 if you prefer to wait another year.

My youngest child was born Aug. 1, 2000. I decided to put him into Kindergarten this year and he is 6. I did this because unlike my other 2 children who were March babies I felt he needed the extra time. Of my three children he is the least outgoing and when he was in preschool he had a hard time with just being there. I felt it was best for him if he was more mature when he went into school.

You can talk to the preschool teachers and ask their suggestions. You will also be able to tell if your child can handle it. My 1st child was ready for all day school by the age of 4. She told me she wanted to go to school on the bus, learn and make friends. She asked me why I didn't leave her with some of the other kids (who's mom's worked) after preschool finished.

Good luck to you and your child.

The real answer is he might or might not depending on where you live!!! Call the elementary school where he will be attending or your local school board office.

Every state has different policies so don't believe the answers that say the cut off is absolutely Aug 1 or Sept 1 or the first day of school. In some states, it's as late as Dec. The only date that matters is the one your local school board gives you (plus the results of K-readiness testing if your district screens them before they can be enrolled). Call someone local before you listen to strangers from all over the world!

Most cut off dates for school years are September 1. My daughter was born August 1, 2002. She is in pre-school this year.

I am not sure of any other state but in Colorado the cut off date is August 25th. My daughter was born August 2003 so she will be able to start pre-school next year. Actually she would have been able to start this year, but I could not find a school that I really liked. I finally found one, so I will enroll her for school in 07'.

My kids were born in July and started kindergarten in September.... 2 months after they turned 5. It depends what the cut off date is. Your school district will be able to answer that for you.

August 4th of what year? 2002?

It depends on where you live. Different states have different cut off dates for enrollment. Also, some schools start as early as July if you want a year round calendar or as late as Labor day for a traditional calendar.

I'd suggest you call the school district to find out what the birthday cut off date is in your area.

He must be 5 years old before September the start of school. So it depends on what year he was born.
