I recently got both of my upper ears pierced about 3 days ago, and It hurts too much to sleep on either side, so needless to say Im forced to sleep on my back.. I have gold hoops in them, and they arent red or swollen or anything like that, Im also using the solution on them twice a day.. They are sore, but only when i accidentally bump them.. Just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes before they are back to normal again, so i can sleep comfortably..?????

Take Motrin or Midol for pain and swelling. If the discomfort lasts for more than 2 months, have a professional piercer put in higher quality and more suited jewelry.
For future reference, you should not have gotten it done with a piercing gun. You are in for a world or soreness and long healing.

I also suggest to use sea salt soaks to help with the sore feeling and speed up healing. Also, switch to using liquid Dial (or another non colored, non scented antibacterial or antimicrobial soap)

Clean your ears twice daily and the overall sore feeling should go away in 2-4 weeks and sleeping on one side of the other will be easier to do after about 8-12 weeks or longer depending on when your body starts to heal. After that there will be some pain if you sleep on one side too much or get hit, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I had my cartilage pierced by a piercer at the beginning of September, there are times still when I lay on that side that the ear hurts... its a slow healing piercing... the recommendation of the c-shaped pillow is a good one, that's what I have had to do, since I can only sleep on the side that I had done... they told me 6 months to a year for complete healing, but the major soreness went down after the first month, now its only sometimes that it hurts, if i bump it, or sleep on it too long...

i had an industrial piercing in the top of my right ear (a rim to rim piercing-look it up if you dont know it) it was v painful, the puss was minging and my ear swelled up terrible. i cleaned it well, did everything right but yet it still had a major infection, which didnt go even when i was on antibiotics, after a month of agony i took it out and now my cartilage has collapsed.i didnt even have it done with a gun which would usually cause the cartilage collapse. i just think on certain people cartilage piercings dont heal well. even on people's that have, i have noticed they have lumps of infected skin on them (forgot the correct term now however).
anyways here's what i was getting around to say, if they don't stop stinging and you can't sleep on them within a month, go back to the piercer, or use your best judgement. oh yeah, and dont dye your hair any time soon, as the dye could get into the piercing and cause an infection. hope that helps :)

Yes they do. Claire's is only allowed to pierce the "outer ear"-the lobe and cartilage-not the tragus or anything like that. However, they use the Gun and that is not recommended for the cartilage-it can shatter the bone, causing ugly bumps to form. It is better for your health (less risk of infection) to go to a pro at a tattoo parlor, they use a hollow medical needle, which also hurts less than the gun.

This month I will have had my cartlidge pierced for a year and it hurt soo much to sleep on it , however it can take up to a year for your ear to fully heal. Also I wasnt able to wear gold hoops in the piercing but thats the only thing i can wear in my lope piercings, so maybe you should put a surgical steel one up there.. but good luck!!
So just give it time!

Did you use a gun or a hollow needle? If you used a gun, there's a possibility that you've shattered your cartilage and it'll never heal properly. In any case, do not over wash them--you should wash them thoroughly once a day and leave them alone. Do not touch them, do not change the jewelry, do not put on neosporin or anything else. Also, make sure you're not getting hair products in your piercing.

did you get them pierced with a piercing gun at claires? or did you go to a body piercing place and have them done with a needle? mine took a long time to heal. i finally had to get a straighgt stud instead of a hoop and it took about two weeks to heal up after that. i ended up buying one of those C shaped pillows that goes on your neck (for riding in cars) and slept on that for a while because i am a side sleeper. that way your ear will go in the hole for the C. hope that helped!!

It takes about a week or so, and of course it's gonna hurt the first few days, but don't woory. If it's still sore within two weeks, you have to go back and talk to the people who did your ears.

give them about a week or a little more, cartilage piercings can feel really sensitive when pierced, sleeping on them irritates them and is really uncomfortable to you also, good luck they will be fine in a few days
