The chemicals in permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes are not highly toxic. Most research, although limited, does show that it is safe to colour your hair while pregnant. Some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dyes may cause harm - however, these doses are massive in comparison to the very low amount of chemicals that a woman colouring her hair is exposed to.
Many women decide to wait to dye their hair until after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the risk of chemical substances harming the baby is much lower. You can reduce the risk further by making sure that (if you're colouring your hair yourself) you wear gloves, leave the dye on for the minimum time, and work in a well-ventilated room.
Highlighting your hair also reduces any risk, as the chemicals used are then only absorbed by the hair itself and not by your scalp and into your bloodstream. Semi-permanent pure vegetable dyes, such as henna, are a safe alternative.
Do remember that pregnancy can affect the normal condition of your hair. Your hair may react differently to colouring or perming, becoming more or less absorbent, frizzy or unpredictable. It's always a good idea to do a strand test first using the treatment(s) you intend to use. Speak to your hairdresser for advice.

Ok as said above it's perfectly fine...as long as you're not using dye from 30 years ago. However you have to condition a lot afterwards because due to hormones your hairs already probably going to fall out at a slightly faster than normal rate. When I dyed my hair for about two days I thought I was gonna end up bald but it stopped and I still had hair. LOL.

It won't hurt the baby...BUT you're hair could look strange when you finish..The hormones in your body cause changes in your hair. So the hair that you had before you got pregnant, and the hair that has grown since you got pregnant, could come out different colors. So just becareful. you're best bet would be to use Deposit only color(aka Demi color) that way you wouldn't be lifting any of the natural color out of your hair, only covering it..you'd have a better chance of getting an even result. However i would avoid lightening you're hair because you never know how it will turn out as far as the pre pregnant, post pregnancy hair goes. Good luck

This is something i actually called my Dr. to find out. A friend of mine had told me it was bad to color your hair while pregnant and after calling my Dr. to ask, i was told, no, do not dye your hair while pregnant. Breathing in the fumes is bad, and also i was told the dye could be absorbed into the skin and effect the baby. My mother on the other hand when pregnant dyed her hair every 6 weeks while pregnant with all 4 of us and nothing happened, but i myself didnt take any chances.

Probably not a good idea. Did your doctor tell you not to dye your hair? If he did not , then call him and ask.
There are some temporary rinses that cover roots and the hair so depending on what the doctor says; go to a good hair colorist and ask what can be done. They face this kind of thing all the time and they can tell you what is available for your situation that can make your hair look better.
Congratulations Little Momma! Best Blessings.

I waited until I was past the first trimester and then I dyed my hair but not as often as when I wasn't pregnant. I usually do my hair every 3 weeks or so b/c my hair is very dark and the roots show easily. While I was pregnant, I dyed it every 6 weeks or so.
Hair dye is not the dangerous stuff it used it be, and only minimal amount are actually absorbed thorugh the scalp. You could also try a henna rinse which is prefectly fine since it's all natural.
You may want to call your ob/gyn and ask, but I dyed my hair and my child was just fine--beautiful in fact, if I say so myself.
Congratulations and good luck!

FOR GOODNESS SAKES!
People are nuts, it's an old old wise tale and I can't believe people still think you can't!!
OK- think about it- does your skin absorb everything?? It would have to get into your bloodstream to affect the baby.
The fumes- as long as your are not huffing the stuff it's FINE.
Think about it- if that is the case then you shouldn't use any products like Air freshers, freebreeze, body lotion, candles.... ect... You inhale just as many chemicals from inhaling air freshener!!!!
A good word of advice is go to a nice salon so you don't have to touch the stuff or deal with it and they have the proper ventilation.... Also it goes a little faster when someone is putting it on for you.

yes, dyes from years ago had horribly caustic fumes and could have been bad for the baby but these days they are much safer and you can absolutely dye your hair. my hairdresser didn't even have to stop dying people's hair when she was pregnant. just let them know that you are (if you're not showing) you shold not get a perm tho. good luck with your pregnancy!!

specific. i became into advised it became into ok with the aid of 3 diverse docs. the reason it is so debatable is with the help of the fact hair dyes used to comprise formaldehyde, that's certainly variety risky. Now, hair dyes are a lot safer and that's okay to apply them during pregnancy. some docs will inform you to attend till after the 1st trimester, just to be risk-free.
