I would feel no different than if a buddhist, jewish, hindu, catholic, or any other person moved into my neighborhood. That's why I live in a free country. Who has time to judge the religious beliefs of others in this day and age?
If we got to know them and they were nice people then we'd become friends. Maybe their kids would play with my children. Ya know the usual stuff that happens among neighbors.

A Muslim couple *did* move into our neighborhood a couple of years ago.
There was this house that had been vacant for a long time, and there was no "for sale" or "for rent" sign in front, so I wondered about it.
One day, while walking my dog, I saw a car in the driveway of that house, and went over to see what was up. As I approached, I saw in the back of the car a copy of the Quran. So when this couple came out of the house, I said "Salaam-o-Alikum! Are you the owners of this house?"
The woman of the couple replied "Alaikum Salaam! Are you Muslim?"
I said, no, and asked about the house. The women said that she was astonished that anyone not Muslim would know the traditional greeting or be polite enough to use it.
During the ensuing conversation, the man of the couple pretty much ignored me, but I expected that - it was Summer, and I was walking my dog in a tank top and shorts.
In any case, we've become fast friends, that couple and my hubby and myself. Of course, the friendship is limited a little because of restrictions on interaction between the men and women not related to each other, and I always respect that.
We watch each others' homes and take in the mail when one or the other of us goes on vacation; we help each other out with stuff, we enjoy each other's ' company.
And that reminds me - we haven't had them over for dinner in a LONG time; I need to invite them over soon.
I'm glad you brought this up!

There IS a Muslim family in my neighborhood; they're Palestinian refugees, and they own the convenience store on the corner... So if another Muslim family moved in, I'd probably just say hello whenever I saw them, like I do with everyone else around here.

Interesting question. Sadly there WILL be people reacting negatively based on prejudices, but I can't tell how many, of course.
As for myself, I've been in classrooms where half the students are Muslims, and we get along fine. I would be happy if they had the same faith as myself of course, but no matter what beliefs they have, I'll consider them my brethren.

Humans react to individual responses, not religion.
In all probabilty, humans would have no problem.
If, however, the Muslims were not adapting to the norms of the neighborhood and were abrasive, I compute 80% probabilty of their being ignored and ostracised.

I'd be happier than if another christian family moved in. Our area is not very diverse and diversity is always better. We have muslim friends (as adults) but our kids don't know any muslims their age.

I would be pleased to meet them, as long as they're good people. It's not as if Muslims aren't human! Being a Muslim doesn't make a person bad; being disobedient to God is what makes a person sinful.
Peace.

does it make a difference if they are Muslim or just that muslims have all been put into one catagory. You should see people with your heart not your mind. Then ask yourself if it makes a difference.

I'ld try to make a dish that was fitting to their religion and bring it over for them and greet them as a friend.
