This is a very common thing. You are one of those people whose blood vessels in their hands are very sensitive to cold. It's really nothing to worry about, and from the standpoint of preventing it you should wear gloves and expose your hands to the cold as little as possible. It's part and parcel of your constitution.

If you told me that the condition was getting worse and was happening even when it wasn't so cold, and you were beginning to see changes in the skin around the fingertips - I would then ask whether there was some underlying cause.

You would only take some sort of medication if the problem is very severe, or incapacitating in some way. What you must do is try to avoid the cold.

I'm not exactly sure, Juno. But I've seen the same thing and I'm guessing that cold weather and poor circulation have something to do with it. The swelling goes back down pretty quickly when I get warm again.
