Try removing the stereo and look at the wires by the connector block theire is two power wires red is a switch feed and yellow is a permanent live on both wires ther should be a bullet connector some cars need the yellow plugged into the red and the red plugged into the yellow.

there is a problem with your permanent live connection, the adaptor leads with the stereo will fit a certain car so unless you are putting the stereo in the same car it came out of that could be the problem, could be worth trying to swap both positive power leads around

No problem ..you have the perminate live and the ignition live round the wrong way....their should be a pair of bullet conectors or the red and yellow wires...disconect them and put one half of the yellow and one half of the red together and do the same with the other try to under stand what i have writen as i was watching to pints of lagar and a packet of crisps...sorry but the gist of it is right just swop them round...good luck

Whoever hooked it up. Hooked it up wrong there is something wrong with your power wires for every deck theres a constant power and ignition power. If hooked up right then your deck should hold memory to whatever it was on when you turn your car off and your cd should always stay in. I say take it to the nearest audio shop and see if they can check it out.

where'd you buy this from and who installed it? do you have an owner's manual for it? it could be faulty and you might need to return it from wherever you got it. or you might just need to adjust some settings.

good luck.
