Over the past few years I've experienced painful skin. It doesn't hurt unless it is touched. It is usually on my right arm in different spots. Also, it isn't constant. When it occurs it lasts about 1 to 2 days. Then goes away for quite some time. Except that it is happening more often lately. I have hypothyroidism (diagnosed July 2005). And I also have back and neck trouble. I don't know if it is associated with those ailments or if it is something else. I'm hoping that it is a normal ache that many get as they get older. Please let me know your opinions.

This is very interesting. My daughter, who is 20 yrs old, was in a car accident 2 months ago. She is being treated right now for severe whiplash in her neck, caused by her airbag, and lower back strain. Twice now since the accident she has complained to me about the same thing, "hurting" skin. It's on the back of her thigh up high by her "cheek". There's nothing there, it looks normal, the 1st one lasted a couple days and went away. This latest just started yesterday so we'll see. If we find out what it is I'll leet you know.

First, I suggest you talk to a professional.

Second, I'm not a doctor so I'll relate my laymans opinion.

I agree that your back may be contributing to your skin problem. As you may be aware of, all our nerves run from the main nerve that runs through the vertebrae in our back. If a subluxation occurs in the right spot it can affect any particular part of our body.

However, that doesn't mean that is all that is happening. I've learned that the skin rashes that I experience are caused by allergies, medecines, and foods.

I have back and neck problems from a car wreck back in 1998 (I was rear-ended) but I don't have the problem with the painful skin. It could be connected to your other condition. I would mention it to the doctor and see what they say. Also if you spent a lot of time out in the sun when you were younger I would be on the safe side and get checked for skin cancer. A friend of mine had it when she was in her early 20's

I have never experience that. Although I don't have your health complications. One thing I can assure you, as we get old body change. It wouldn't hurt to go to the doctor and ask him for a complete blood test.
Hope you feel better.
