There are all kinds of different pitbull breeds in the bully family. We have a red nose beige brindle pitty. She didn't grow to be to big either. She's 43lbs and I have met others that were around the same size male and female. Don't feed your dog too much though or you will end up with a fat pitbull...I know of a man that has a fat pitty and she looks funny...so used to the muscle look. It's not a bad thing that your pup is a medium size pup...he will love you always as you will love him.

There is a very good chance that you picked out the runt of the litter. In every litter there is usually one or two dogs that just won't grow as big as the other dogs. If this is the case there isn't much you will be able to do in order to get a bigger dog.

Make sure you are feeding a raw food based diet. www.leerburg.com/feedingdogs.htm to learn more. Either use actual raw food or get a natural brand of dog food like Innova or Flint River. I order Flint River from the internet.
Pit bulls aren't supposed to be tall if that's what you're referring to. They are short and stocky. If the dog is under a year old or around a year, he still has some growing to do.
Exercise and good natural food are all you can do. This dog may not even grow as tall or large as the parents. My yorkie is about 3 lbs full grown and her parents were both over 4 lbs.

I have a black nose and gentics are a big part. My guy was a slow grower he was punny for a while most are. I fed my dog dry pedigree twice a day and for a while I mixed some milk into his food and he would sometimes give him some of whatever we were eating. I wasn't trying to get him bigger that was just the way I fed him. I also took him out to the country every weekend to let him run and exercise. The result when he was about 2 (which is when they typically fill out) was a 70lb big boy he wasnt and still isnt fat, but muscle and beautiful. Just give it time keep feeding him twice and day and exercise him often.

Innova and a raw diet are the best you can do. Anyways pits dont grow that tall lol. If the breeder called it a pitbull then you probably don't even have all that good of a dog!

There is a big variance of size when it comes to dogs. It has to do with genetics. I have seen pure pred pitts that have the heads of a TRUCK and are HUGE. I have seen pure bred pitts that are small, and not real stocky. I have seen pitts inbetween the two. There are pure bred boston terriers that are TALL, and ones that are short. My point is, maybe your dog's parents were small? Or maybe they had a small pitt in their gene pool and both "threw the reccessive" Maybe your dog is still a puppy and isn't even close to being filled out?
Make sure that you have him on a high quality food..not a grocery store brand. Make sure he goes in for his regular vaccines. If he is SKINNY and not gaining weight, take him to the vet and have him checked for worms. If he gets a good health check at the vet, and you have him on good food, and he stays small, I would just chalk it up to genetics. HTH

Pitbulls don't really get big. They are short and stocky dogs so if they get "big" its not going to be height wise but girth. And even then pit bulls are a good bit muscle, not so much fat.
If it would make you feel better you could always take him to the Vet and make sure he's healthy. If the Vet gives you the green light then don't worry.

I feed my little guy Purina One for large breed puppies and I follow the feeding directions on the bag. My little guy is beginning to get huge. my hubby wants him to bulk up with muscle I think that will happen naturally as he ages. Bruno still has a lot of skin to grow into.
Good luck with your puppy. Pit bulls are great dogs. I love ours.

Purina one growth and development. We put our pit on it and he got big over night it seemed. He is now 98 pounds and healthy all muscle. Most people will tell you to get Diamond dog food(it's sold at specialty stores and very expensive) but our vet told us that it has to much protien in it and it wouldn't help with growth.
