Sister Steph - I know you wouldn't accept anything on blind faith, but trust me, it's not a novel!

It's emerging that criticism of the religious way of thinking is perceived by believers as a personal insult.

Why would I read a book written by someone who wastes his talent on trying to disprove God.Dawkins has a hole in his soul that will never be filled by his actions,or his books. He is a very angry and sad human. If only he would realize there is someone that would lift those burdens off of him,but he won't believe.
That someone is the true son of the living God,Jesus Christ.

I hope more people read it.
It has given me real peace for the first time in my life. I have searched high and low for a 'faith' or religion that was truer than the others because the option to have no faith in God just is not allowed. I think I may be ready to come out of the closet soon and be openly no longer religious.

I have read and thought it was an excellent book, but I am an atheist. I think moderate religious people could read it and think about the ideas in it, but more extreme people would find it offensive. I have read a book written by a religious scientist arguing against many of Dawkin's beliefs so I can't see why a religious who is sensible can't read The God Delusion.

I am a fraid Sigmund Freud has beat Mr Dawkins to it, many years before in his book Volume XXI "The future of an illusion, Civilisation and its Discontents and other works".
So there is nothing more Mr Dawkins has expressed that has not been already said.
"There is nothing new under the sun" once said by a great man, Jack Kerouac.

Hello,
YES! I'm still ploughing & struggling my way through Richard Dwarkins book the God Delusion. Its a very challenging suject to write about but I find dwarkins style hard going.
Anyway, back to your question of will religious people read it? I seriously doubt it myself. Why? because their own ideas would be so strongly challenged I think they would find it to upsetting to read the truth as an atheist see's it.
**Personally as an atheist myself, and as I grow abit older I see how desperately so called orthodox or devout believers need their faith, their religions.
**I now look at religious belief this way, if you were walking down a street some where & saw a person with a broken leg in plaster using crutches would you go and kick away the crutches from under them?
No! of course NOT why? because its cruel and because the persons leg wouldnt ever heal. So who am I to kick away the crutches of someone else's beliefs or faith. Even if I dont agree with there crutches, even if I think crutches are totally stupid and un-neccessary, even if I think they can walk without them. See what I mean?
**The only thing I ask from people who need their crutches is Please dont tell me I need crutches too, l'm walking fine without them thanks!!

I am reading the book now and for the first time in my life I feel sane!! He is saying better than I can what I have thought and felt guilty for thinking for years.
I do agree people of "faith" do tend to react poorly to any challenges to their belief system and they get especially testy and beligerent the saner your arguments are. I find the conversations always end with them accusing me of robbing them of their 'eternal salvation' and them suggesting I need to repent. One even offered to pray for me to see the error of my ways.
I have been posting recomendations for this book and
recieved this missive.... why he calls me hottie I don't know.
Is he flirting as he puts me down or is it a reference to where he thinks I am headed?
From: uziell
Subject: Hello hottie, I have something to tell you.
Message: You know where your alligances stand. Please don't hurt the children of God by telling them lies. You know what the truth is but It seems so much easier to let the occult have your alligance. In truth all of us have to work for our eternity and all it takes is lettting us trust in Gods hands. Why do you try to take that from people, their eternities. I feel sorry that people don't understand you. But the truth is the opposite, you don't understand people. God loves you and wants to save you, he is always here for you and if you would just listen you would understand this love and people as well. God wants you back and is trying to get your attention through the things happening in your life, he did this to me when I was in the occult and he saved me. Now my life is better than it has ever been. You must not give up because if you pray to God and trust in him you will have a new life in him. May you find peace, your brother in our Lord Jesus Christ, Uziell.
If you have suggestions for how to reply to such a deluded person feel free to email me.
I'm going to bed now, It's very late.

I refuse to read the blasphemous words of that person. I would never read that book because I do not believe in his words. I think it's awful to go around and tell people they shouldn't have their religion because the author doesn't have the same opinion. He's a bigbot hiding behind his little novel.

I've read it as a huge fan of Richard Dawkins it is a fantastic book. It systematically destroys the myth of god that has been blinding billions of people for centuries. Everyone should read especially the religious. Say no to jesus say yes to Richard Dawkins

I have a poor memory, but wasn't Dawkins a bit lost on dealing with concepts such as conscience?

Whether it is Dawkins or Darwin, its just a matter of opinion as to who is deluded.
There is plenty of science to prove the existence of god.
