doesn`t matter how much money you have, if you want to reduce the chances of something going wrong buy japanese or german.

Mk4 Astra, sensible and not really the most exciting motor, but it does just about everything to a good standard. A decent all rounder, pretty dependable and genreally inexpensive to repair.

An early Focus might stretch your budget badly, but if you can, buy one. They still look good and drive well, but crucially, they're hightly rater for reliability and being a Ford, parts will be plentiful and cheap. An absolute no-brainer.

Another suggestion is the MK1 Nissan Almera. Dull, dull, and then some more, although being underrated does wonders for prices, and it's a reliable, competent car under the unimaginative bodyshell.

All cars should manage at least 35-40MPG if engines are under 1.8 litres.

Well funny you should ask cause iv got a peugeot 106 for sale

its a perfect first car or run around
m reg 1.5 diesel

does about 650+ miles to £35 tank
diesel is most economic and iv never had a problem with it!!

I bought a Peugeot 405 TD (1995) 6 years ago still have it, never let me down. So I would recommend a diesel Peugeot.
