I just read the article about how and why our military troops are using silly string. It's an awesome idea and a really, really great "James Bond" type of way to use the stuff. My question is this: Shouldn't this be Top Secret information??

Maybe for official use only or confidential, but top secret would be going overboard. I think it's definitely something that we shouldn't just be telling everyone about.

wel theres always some idiot journalist who caresmore about making a name for themselves then they do at helping our troops by keeping secrets secretive.

on another note -- what threat would they have if the insurgents knew of this tactic. All it is is a means of disovering trip wires that are already set in place. Only hing they could so is stop setting trip wire
which would be a good thing

Not top secret....just handy to increase chances of survival. I admire the guys who came up with that idea, its totally james bond.
If it helps the guys do their job, more bad guys will die. And bad guys dying is a GOOD thing!

Purpose of the silly string is simple: Spray it across spans of area to detect trip wires connected to IED's.

And geez...only every news agency has reported it's use.

As it was not being provided through official channels quick enough, the soldiers asked for silly string to be sent from home.
As long as it saves soldiers lives, it is fine with me.

Something similar happened in Viet Nam. Medics realized that the plastic Saran Wrap used for food was a perfect cover for abdominal wounds. The medics could not put things back in, but they needed to protect the wounds from dirt and infection. The Saran Wrap worked and medics asked for it to be sent to them from their families.
