Do steam help this problem?

Is it true that steam helps you when you have a cold? What does it do for you?

Steam inhalation (Be careful not to burn yourself!) increases mucus velocity: that is, it makes it easier to blow out/cough up mucus. It also seems to relieve congestion in other, not well understood, ways, and it seems to work much better than medication in the case of the usual viral illnesses (but if you're asthmatic, don't throw away your inhaler!).

Steam may help when you are congested and can't breath through your nose. I assume because the steam is warm and wet it helps to open up the sinuses. It is also a great way to relax.
Although it isn't a cure. It certainly can be soothing and beneficial for a short time.

Put a few drops of olbas oil or similar into a bowl of hot water,
lean over it with a towel over your head to keep the steam in,
breath deeply and yes, it does relieve cattarah!

inhaling steam relieves you from a blocked nose. try inhaling steam with a little eucalyptus oil. it should work wonders. you feel relieved and great! it just penetrates through your blocked nose and gives you ease of breath. try it! it is very effective!

yea it helps because it loosens up the mucus
