I am in Portugal and have purchased a car with German plates and the insurance runs out Monday. How can I get it legal to drive back to the UK.

You might be able to persuade your insurance to issue a cover note. It is very difficult to buy insurance in another country. You can not register the car in Portugal as you are not resident there. I have had similar problems with a UK car in Germany. The EU might be good for buisness, but it does not make life very easy for the people. Now if you wanted to buy the Portugeuse electricity board that would be easy! This car is not a mini by any chance?

Simple contact an any insurance company in the UK- companies Like AA and RAC can not only insure your car whilst abroad, they can arrange to get you home once insured if you should break down.

Once in the UK if the car has P plates then just contact DVLA with papers and an English MOT. and they will exchange them for a UK log Book.
