Since researchers have finally discovered the complete DNA helix a few years ago, the possibilities and the potential are closer. Unfortunately, it'll still take a long time before a major breakthrough is discovered to cure many major diseases and disorders.

if that occurs at all, it is decades, perhaps centuries away. Mapping the genome is a baby step towards actual manipulation.
