Why not ask a dr?

A bacterial infection.

If your son has a virus, advil and tylenol will bring the fever down and it usually goes away after a day or two - or at least you see some progress.

If it is a bacteria then the fever does not budge. It gets progressively worse. You will need to get him on antibiotics to cure him.

The key is - wait 2-3 days with fever, if there is no progress, get it checked out. It's probably bacterial.

Good luck. I have a 9 yr old daughter myself.

Your son may have an infection of some sort it could be something as simple as an ear infection, strep throat, or a sinus infection but the fever will probably not go away without proper care from your physician. I would have him evaluated not only tylenol or motrin is needed he may need an antibiotic.

If you are in Asia, the usual cause for afternoon or evening rises in temperature is a tuberculous infection. I agree with the others-see a doctor. This is your son you are talking about.

My eldest daughter is like that. And it isn't a fever, it's just normal body temperature that gets too high, especially when tired. Give him cold water and a cold compress and his temp will come down.

It might just be his metabolism, but I would definitely ask his doctor about this one....like others have answered, it could be an infection.

Ask your doctor if he could have a UTI or possible kidney infection. Also ask about anemia. God Bless.
