You need that letter from the Cyprus Vet and also from the Airline.

If they have carried out treatment without your WRITTEN permission, you are not liable. You need to go in person and speak to the Vet in charge and get to the bottom of this. Its easy for them to ignore letters and phonecalls. I would want to know why this cut was not noticed IMMEDIATELY. When a dog from a foreign country is admitted, it should have at least a once over before accepting it. Why wasnt this spotted then? Therefore it MUST have happened there.

Go for it!

Clearly you are very distraught and understandibly so! Having gone through many traumatic imports to Oz from Europe, I can really understand where you coming from. The buck gets passed every which way.
Were you not able to visit the dog in quaranrine when he first arrived? You then surely would have been able to assess the dog yourself. If not, then quarantine has an obligation to inform you immediately of any condition arrising, either from transport, or local. Yes, you would be liable for costs, BUT not until you are informed and BEFORE you agree to such vet expenses.

It sounds as if the people at quarantine were negligent of your dogs care and are now trying to shift the blame. Try and get as many statements as poss and go and get legal advise from a solicitor or citizens advice they will tell you where you stand. If it happened in quarantine and they neglected to inform you about it then they should pay the vet bill. Good luck

Sorry to say but the quarantie policy in UK sucks , the whole buisness is in the hands of few people and they run it like a fiefdom.I am sure they inspected him before taking the dog in , so they are responssible .How can the dog start bleeding after 2 days , if he is bleeding heavily and its a old wound how come they dint see it. Sue them

Well chances are is that you had filled out some paper work there to register your dog at that vet. Usually there is a peice of paper there that allows them to treat your dog no matter what. i work at a vet and we have a sheet like this but you don't really have to sign. THEy use it so they can't get sued. I'm sorry if you can't do anything but try to see what paperwork you have filled out

You have just given all the reasons why we NEVER travel with our pets.

You can never be sure what can happen to them when in the hands of others.
