Get another cat for her to play with, cats are nocturnal, and more playful at night. I have a sweet cat I need to find a home for as I found out I am allergic to her.
Come and get her. :)

Ha! I LOVE it when my cat does that. She's kneading my lap right now ....
If it really bothers you, shut your door. Or you can 'train' her not to.
Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Lie down as you would when you're sleeping. If she touches you, BAM. Spray her.
Cats hate sticky things. Get an old shirt and some double-sided tape. Best to do this without any blankets just in case you really fall asleep. Cover the back of the shirt with the tape and lie down nonchalantly. Wait until she tries to lie on your back. It'll be fun, I promise.
You might have to do either of those a few times before she gets the point.
Or you could learn to like it, like I did. If that's an option.

try nudging her off of you or picking her up and moving her position. Although if she is anything like my cat she will just find another spot to do this on. I know it is a nuisance, as I am a light sleeper as well and I get up at 5 am every day. But you should feel honored that she does that, this is a comfort reaction that cats do to people they trust and see as their care giver (mommy). Eventually you will get used to it, my cat has done this so much over the past year that I'm now at the point where she will hop up on me while I am watching the TV on the couch, start doing that and I fall asleep... If its really bothering me or interrupting my rest though (as it sometimes still does) I just pick her up and cuddle her so she can't do it, this either puts her to sleep or annoys her enough that she hops down and finds somewhere else to sleep.

Cats learn to knead during nursing. It's something that they associate with contentment and sooths them.
We shut our door at night because the cats never let us get a full night sleep. Unfortunately, there is not a way to stop their instinctual behavior.

My wife and I have a cat and this a problem. The easiest way to solve the problem is shut the bedroom door. Kitty might not like it at first, bit she'll get over it. It is really the only effective way to keep her from bothering you in the night. Good luck.

Put a pillow behind your back and let her knead on that.... or put the cat in another room at night. If she protests loudly... make sure the room you put her in is farrrrrrrrr away from your bedroom or she'll drive you crazy.

She just loves you and thinks of you as her mother. What seems to work with my cats is giving them a very soft fleece blanket of their very own. When they start kneading me, I turn their paws onto that blanket.

I find my cat does that when she's still trying to decide where to lie down. She usually stops if I stroke her head. The firmer the strokes, the sooner she settles down and goes to sleep as well.

The quickest, cheapest and most efficient way to do that is to SHUT YOUR BEDROOM DOOR and keep it elsewhere in the house where you can't hear.
Or have something else to entertain her while you sleep ... whatever she's interested in.

Learn to love it :-))
One of my kitties always kneads, and sings me to sleep with his purring. Very soothing.
They ALL walk on me when I am trying to sleep. Ouch! Sharp little kitty feet digging into my ribs! :-)) I just roll over...
