For me I'd stay at least an hour..then make my way if things are not great..at least you showed up/if having a good time ,leave at a reasonable hour, take your q from others who may be departing..if the boss is an issue.....watch your booze intake.save any embarrassments for later.Have a great time..if you haven't been asked to bring anything..perhaps a little something for the Host....xmas plant maybe??

Find out what time your friend is going to arrive. Get there 30 mins after her. Gives her time to mingle with those that she knows and then devote time to you. (Unless they have some kind of event like ....awards or presentations or something) Have your b/f get you a white wine spritzer, sparkling wine, or a riesling and baby that one drink all night. That way you don't look like a lush or a prude. If you have a good figure wear something that kinda shows your ....assets. Not in an obvious way, make 'em think ...."Dang! The girl can't hide it even if she wanted to." Plus, it'll keep your b/f.........attentive? Stay as long as you want. A lot of times if things are going well people just relocate to some place else. That's just a way to thin out the herd and re-group with a smaller group of people that has hit it off. You can't go wrong with bringing something. Maybe a box or tin full of peppermints. One gift, can service everybody, and as everone talks, or after they eat, they can just grab a piece of candy. Have fun and let me know how it goes. And remember ....judge not.

You sound a little uptight about this party. I say if you really want to go then go and stay for about an hour. I nice bottle of wine for the host or hostess is always a nice gesture.
But if you really don't want to go - don't! We shouldn't feel obligated to go to something we feel uncomfortable with.
I usally just indicate that I can't attend as I have something planned that night - not a lie as you most likely will be doing something!
Due what you feel makes you comfortable - not because you feel obligated. And if you don't go and people ask what you did in stead just indicate that you had a previous engagment.
We as people tend to over compensate with an explanation - we infact it is really none of the other persons business.
Life is really too short to worry about what other people think about you!
Enjoy your decision either way.

Bringing a bottle of wine, flowers for the hostess, or a box of chocolates is always in good taste. Don't plan on more than two or three hours for just a cocktail gathering, and don't drink so much that getting home is a problem.

plan on staying at least an hour. if is fun, you can stay longer.
have one alcoholic drink at most, and drink soda water the rest of the night. you so not want to do anything that could be considered embarrassing in front of your co-workers.
you could bring a nice bottle of wine as a hostess gift.

I would bring a small gift for the host, i.e bottle of wine.
Typically, when they bring out the coffee, that is the sign that the party is coming to an end.

I've learned that any nice thing is acceptable these days. If I were you I'd bring an ornament for their tree. They will remember the party and your kindness every Christmas from now on.
