Well, the child basically has 'no mom' because he is with me more than the mom.

no, this is what i told my adoptive stepchildrens mother almost 11yrs ago..... almost any woman can give birth to be a mom, but it's the woman who feeds them, shows them love and affection, bathes them and tucks them in at night, kisses and fixes up their boo-boos, etc that is the "real mom"

I believe that being a parent (not just moms, but dads, too) is so much more than just giving birth to a child. I may be bashed for saying this, but having a child is the easy part. Any woman can give birth to a child and any man can help a woman conceive a child. But to be a real mom or dad in every sense of the word--besides the biological aspect--that's something entirely different. Something special.

There are mothers that just aren't "mother material" that shouldn't have had children. Just like there are fathers that aren't "father material" that shouldn't have helped in the conception of a child. And then you have mothers and fathers that are always there for a child, that support that child unequivocally (emotionally/mentally, financially, etc.) and love that child unconditionally, even though there may not be any biological ties.

So yes, it is possible to be a mother even if you've never had a child, so long as that child is the child of your heart. That's all that matters.

Some people have a motherly instinct that makes them natural mothers. I knew a lady growing up that was like a second mom to me and several other kids, although she had no children of her own. I still send her a card every mother's day, even though my own mom and I are close.

The only downside to mothering other people's children is that sometimes you risk losing your heart. If the child should suddenly disappear from your life, it would be like losing your own child. I believe, however, that the opportunity to love any child is worth the risk of heartbreak.

Bless you for being there for a child who needs you.

No you don't have to give birth to be a mom. Giving birth makes you a biological mom. Raising a baby or child and being there for them all the time can make you a 'mom'.

No but you have to have a child that has no mom to call you mom.
Being a mom can be a special thing and it doesnt take birthing to give you that.

if you are responcible for a childs care and welfare you are a mom, or a dad if your a male, as you are doing the job of a mother, or father, biological or not

no you don't, you are that child's mother. Just like someone adopts a child they become a legal parent. If someone says you aren't a mother, they don't know their a$$ from their face.
