Well, it already has been changed. We don't use the term mental retardation except in a diagnosis from a doctor. The correct term used now is developmentally disabled.

PC is ridiculous. All these terms eventually become 'tainted' by being used abusively or just because the subject they describe is seen as distasteful by people. So they have to bring in more and more ridiculous euphemisms.
Mental retardation means literally slowness of mental development, and perfectly describes the condition.
A disabled person is in fact 'handicapped'. That term in particular describes perfectly what it is like to be disabled. It means that you have an extra burden to carry, a burden that can in fact be overcome by developing your mental or physical strength. Exactly what a handicap is.
In my view PC often conceals the opposite of what it promotes. I have heard the proponents of using racially innocuous terms actually expressing a kind of inverted racism.
That's the long, discursive answer. The short answer is 'no'.

I don't see what purpose it would serve...If you are worried about the negative way "retard" is used as an insult, changing the name would just mean people had a new word to use to insult others.
