Is happiness really the best goal? I have gone through some really unhappy times in my life. I would never have chosen those situations, but I believe I'm a better person because of them.
I strive not for my own happiness, but to make a difference in my world. I guess if I accomplish that, then I would be happy. Hmm...good question.

In my mind, the key to happiness is being certain that you are not the center of your world. Turn outward. Look for God, or love, or learning, or sacrifice in giving... but don't consider your own happiness before others, and you'll discover you ARE happy! As for religion, I was raised a Baptist, became wiccan as a young adult, and ended up angry and dissallusioned before I discovered Jehovah's Witnesses and their way of worship. Now I suppose I am as happy as one CAN be in this system of things, and my faith has LOTS to do with it. It's not for everyone, but it worked for me! :) Great question today!

Happiness is very relative to everyone , I would say to love all ...or in other words to be on good terms with everyone even with the dull and ignorant , Hate not , be modest in your expectations of life to minimize your failures , learn from your mistakes , be positive ...or in other words look at the half full glass , laugh often , love and fear God , having the paradise as your goal , work hard , be honest , forgive to those who have hurt you or in other words do not hold grudges . Play and sing often ,
Be busy all the time , strive to be good . Sheers

To me, true happinness is inside ourselves, it depends on the mental attitudes we nurture, the feelings we keep inside our heart.
I am a Buddhist, and there are 2 precepts that have helped me in the quest of happiness:
1. unattachment (not clinging to people/things, since our happiness does not depend on another person or much less on things)
2. impermanence (nothing is permanent, the whole world is in constante change so, instead of resisting change, we should flow and let things flow around us)

I suppose it could be reasonably argued that many atheists are happy while many religious people are not. I think happiness is something that is subjective. However, happiness in it's truest form would be wanting what you have instead of having all you "think you want". Being content with who you are and the life you have.

when i learned and felt the real meaning of happiness, is that when i was born again in spirit and knew how much God loves me and that He had prepared a room for me in heaven.
from then on, i feel happy when i He teaches me to forgive, to love and when He says that He will never leave me nor forsake me.
I am happy when He shows me His promises in the bible and all things was not broken.
i am happy every time i hear Him through the Holy Scriptures.
Many way more...just seek, love and have faith in HIM....

For me the secret to being happy was getting to know myself. I no longer have fear when I have to speak publicly and I feel strong enough to tackle any situation that comes my way.
God had a large impact on that. My faith and my life fuse together and make me strong! Good luck!

The way I look at it, there's very little in life that we have control over.
Therefore, the key to happiness is to try your best, and then adjust yourself to be satisfied with whatever may come.
As they say, "The good life comes when we stop looking for a better one."

first of all, to honour my God and to believe that - no matter what happens - He is ALWAYS - A L W A Y S in control of everything, as absurd, ridiculous it may seem. FAITH is the key.
Second: to live ONE day at a time, according to the Bible.
I have done that, and it works and believe me, I went thru A LOT in my life, more than words can tell.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.
