Have you ever heard of dance without music? Have you ever enjoyed a dance performance accompanied by a bad music? Music is one of the most important elements of any dance form, be it classical, folk, tribal, modern or ballet. There are specific musical forms used for dance. Music for dance wouldn't make any sense if it were not accompanied by lyrics, which are more often sung than recited. Similarly, footwork wouldn't be effective without the help of percussion.
So, it can be experience by anyone that dance and music are intertwined and get along with each other.

Music and dance are like milk and cookies. You can enjoy one without the other but they are best when combined. Dance is a physical representation of the rhythms and emotions in music. It can also provide those same elements. For example, the rhythmic pulse provided by the tap dancer can be the main rhythms for the song as well. I can't dance, but as a musician I have an appreciation for what dancers can do.

Recent research in early childhood music education shows that young children learn the most about music by DANCING. Using large muscle groups (legs, arms) helps children internalize the beat. You can certainly dance without music, and you can have music without dance, but in order to dance without music, the beat/tempo needs to be internalized.

Dance is a form of drama, although not always storytelling. I like to think of it as visual art done with music and movement.

You listen to a good tune and you WILL tap your feet.
Dance is a further expression of it.
Plus, it's alluring. You will want to attract the opposite sex...usually!
