Which do you think you would use more? Choose that one. I would think Japanese would be more useful, considering it covers a larger range. I would think Korean is more difficult, because I'm studying Japanese and it is a relatively simple-to-learn language.

For an absolute beginner they would be equally difficult, so as you don't have a preference for personal reasons, and presumably you don't have a preference for future job qualification reasons, I suggest that you look around and see what classes are available in your area.
THAT is the next most important thing - and if there aren't any classes available you will have to see which language has the best selection of teach-yourself books + CDs, or web-sites with audio available, as well as the written lessons.......... that would probably end up being Japanese.

If you're technologically inclined or a gamer or someone who is into anime/manga, then Japanese is your best bet.
Aside from that, look at your local Asian community. It'd make more sense to learn the language that seems more prevalent. Otherwise, why learn a language you cant use?
