There have been quite a few problems with the current line up of LG home theater systems, many of them related to the HDMI connection. If you're looking at any of the Onkyo HTIB systems you really can't go wrong. When you compare them to most any other brand you get a ton for the money. Great performance, great features and great sound, without breaking the bank.

Also take a look at the Denon DHT 687. Its another HTIB in the same realm as the Onkyo, but with a higher performance DVD player, and speaker system. The receivers are very similar with one main difference, the Denon offers an 8 Channel input on the back which will become very important for you if you get a Blu-Ray or HD DVD player, because the new surround formats on the players will connect through the 8 channel input.

I hope this helps.

Have you considered working with a home theater specialist? Depending on your budget, you may be able to put together a system from individual components that will be far superior to 1 piece all in one systems. A good theater specialist will work with you and your room to optimize the performance. There are a ton of little detail tweaks that can make a huge difference. It can be surprisingly affordable and there is equipment out there that you won't find in Consumer Reports that performs at a far higher level and has proven itself very reliable over many years.
