Go to www.drugstore.com and order some melatonin (3mg). Take it about 20 minutes before you want to go to sleep. Melatonin is healthy for you, unlike Sominex and all the other stuff. Or you can go to a health food store and get it there---like GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe. I like to at least review the best formulas on drugstore.com first, then go hunt it down in person if I don't order it.
I've had insomnia forever, but melatonin helps me sleep. I essentially don't have it any longer because of it.

It is interesting how many people on here recommend vitamins and supplements because they are "safe and natural". Insomnia can be a symptom of problems like anxiety and depression, but it also can be a temporary phenomenon due to unusual stress etc. Another common cause of insomnia is excess caffeine intake.
Yes, I know you'll say "but, I have always drink Mountain Dew in the evening" or what ever caffeinated beverage of choice. So, if you are a caffeine drinker, cut it out or cut is down. Limit it to early in the day and avoid it several hours before bed.
Also try exercising. Even modest exercise, like a twenty minute walk, may help with anxiety and depression and is a simple, safe, non-drug solution.
You also said you are having headaches and back pain. Be careful about the pain relievers you are using. Some use caffeine as an ingredient.
Also given the duration of you symptoms, it would be a good idea for you to see a doctor for a checkup.

Take daily: 1) a high potency multiple vitamin with minerals; 2) a calcium-magnesium-zinc pill with each meal; 3) an antioxidant combo; 4) an essential fatty acid supplement. A malnourished nervous system cannot function properly. To fall asleep, try Valerian or Calms Forte. To help stay asleep, take 1-3 mg melatonin at bedtime. 5-HTP and GABA also help calm a hyperactive brain.

Well in my case I was once identified a extreme manic depressant which contributed to insomnia and dependancy. I ultimately requested for aid and was once prescribed Zoloft and Trazadone. The longest I ever stayed up with out medicines or alcohol was once 12 days instantly. If your something like me take prescribed medicines however I am an attractive extreme case.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
