What is acceptable these days..... Can I say that girl is Ugly or will it offend Ugly people or should we refer to them as Facialy Disadvantaged.....?
Is it taboo for me to refer to people as FAT should I have to rephrase that as Festively Plump.....? Would Fat people prefure that they were called people witha Weight retention disorder ....?
It's like the kings news clothes ...... Why do we have to hide the truth.....People are what they are.....Hell I know Im Shallow....

Well if they wore a label which said Mum , Dad , Teacher or Depressed and eat a lot of chocolate... Then I would see them as something other than FAT/UGLY.
I would see them as a Fat/UGLY MUM/Dad/Teacher.......Duh

I know what you are saying. It's like calling short people "vertically challenged". I call skinny people "toothpicks" . :)

I call a spade a spade. If someone is fat then they are fat. No point trying to dress it up as something different. Perhaps a better more polite word would be overweight.
Fatness is not an illness in 99% of the cases, it's a lack of exercise and poor diet choices, simple as. Nothing to do with their thyroid as most fat, sorry, overweight people, will tell you.
Also fatness has nothing to do with retaining water.... I mean what did they drink? The bloody ocean?
Fat people are fat... thin people are thin, ugly people have nice personalities.... and....I wish my fat a.rse was smaller.
I'm so going to take a lot of shite for this answer......

I think if you feel like you need to call people names, it doesn't say much about who you are as a person. Whether it's politically correct or not, we all know that no one likes to be called fat, no one likes to be called racial names, women don't like to be called bitches, guys don't want to be called small, skinny, short, bald. Nobody likes to be called names, so why not be decent and refrain from doing it, it certainly doesn't lift you up or make you look better. The truth.....is different for each person, but being offensive is universal, most decent, educated people are above name calling.

I am fat and as a result i will not be offended if someone called me fat as i am in agreement as it's a fact. Life for me is too short to worry about what people want to call me.

I like the eupemisms better :) I am constantly lost but I just call people and say, sorry i'm late for the meeting but I suffer from directional disorder. I'm geographically challenged. no one ever argues. I even got to park in a diabled bay once cos I told the guard on duty that :)

the word fat can be offencive to people who are....but the fact is....inside an overweight persons body is fat...that's just what it is....i personally would not call anyone fat, i used the more subtle word like bigger or large or full.....if someone called me fat i would be offended....there's other ways of saying it but the word fat does not come across very well with some people...and if you look in your other post you will see that you mentioned fat girls, how taboo is that?....be more subtle next time...

I would be reluctant to tell a friend that he/she was Fat but rather seriously damaging their health by being so overweight. They know that they are fat.
You can tell it how it is without being offencive. I'm not into all this politically correct rubbish at all.

Just say what you think PC has gone crazy and not just on the appearance on people but everything for example my local council tried to ban people from showing a ST GEORGE flag over the world cup last summer because it may offend people how stupid is that, PC has gone too far and it will get allot worse.

Do we really have to label people at all?
And why would you want to point out someones flaws in the first place?
No one is perfect.
We don't have to hide the truth and probably couldn't if we tried but we also don't have to shout out to the world what people are. It's up to the individual what they share.
At least you admit you're shallow.
