First, the brain is NOT a muscle. It is part of the central nervous system as is composed exclusively of nervous tissue.

The strongest muscle in the body is not the tongue. I presume this was a sarcastic reference to the amount of talking you do. Nor is it the mandible. The human jaw is capable of exerting considerable pressure upon closing but this is more to do with the small surface areas than any innate strength of the muscles involved.

The strongest muscle in the human body is the gluteus maxiumus, or buttock muscle, but there is a refinement to the argument. In the gravid female upon contraction during parturition the uterine muscle is temporarily more powerful, in that it imparts a greater energy on contraction and expansion than the gluteus maximus. In its sessile state, though, it is nowhere near the ‘strongest muscle in the human body’.

The strongest muscle of the body is in your behind; it's also called the gluteus maximus (a muscle in the buttocks)

The tongue is also "one" of the strongest muscles in the body.

In ordinary parlance, muscular "strength" usually refers to the ability to exert a force on an external object—for example, lifting a weight. By this definition, the masseter or jaw muscle is the strongest. The 1992 Guinness Book of Records records the achievement of a bite strength of 975 lbf (4337 N) for two seconds.

So it's all how you define the strength as !

Thinking that the tongue and the heart are the strongest muscles in your body is ok, but not from a Diet & Fitness point of view. You do not lift 10kg weights with your tongue. If you put your question in a Biology section then the correct answer would be tongue, heart. In fitness your strongest muscle group is that of your thighs and bum.

The strongest muscle IN the body tongue

ON your body Gluteus Maximus (Butt- Bottom)

Then again the strongest muscle has to be the one that is used and trained the most.

If you’re sitting round all day your heart does not have to work hard because it is happy pumping blood at the rested rate.

If you run allot, hell your heart is going to be strong

If you work that butt in the gym or play a sports like Squash or football. Dam your butt will be stronger.

Your tongue hmm well there are many uses for it right!!!

Its strong because we use it lots everyday with out realising. This is then followed by the heart.

Interesting thought, jaw bones and sprinters legs are made powerful by the mechanical advantage applied by the muscles. so the jaw muscle hinges the jaw shut with massive forces... but it is the combination of muscle and bone that produce this force.

which muscle is the strongest all by itself???
Could it be different by person?
I'd have thought that the biceps of a young Arnold Schwarzeneggar were heaps stronger than his tongue...

In terms of strength as a ratio to size, it is by far the jaw muscle. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either barking mad is just agreeing with everyone else.
