I think it also has to do with people's own interpretations and how they think the Bible and religion should fit into their lives. What do you think drives this?

because we are all unique and no two people will see things in the same way....
this is really what has caused so much contraversy over the bible..
it is supposedly Gods word ... yet even those in the same faith have trouble agreeing
shouldnt Gods word be simple that needs no interpretation ?
or maybe this is exactly what God wants .... for each person to give their own meaning to it ... if this is so then even those who do not accept the teachings are still doing what God intended

The O.T. was nailed to the cross. It is for our learning now but we are no longer under it since Jesus died and gave us the N.T. and the plan of salvation.
The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and says the same to All it is not of private interpretation.

This said, Yes People go astray from the GOSPEL, which is the GOOD NEWS OF CHRIST when they start picking and choosing what they will obey from God's commandments.

IF all would only do as GOD commands and not follow after MAN'S DOCTRINES, There would be no divisions in the CHURCH OF CHRIST. YES Christ built HIS CHURCH, ONE.

absolutely correct. Such an example is Paul speaking about going to heaven.. Who was he talking too? It was anointed Christians not the general public. It is correct to concider what the bible is telling everyone.
