I have a six month old Rottie puppy. He is extremley healthy etc.
He has been scratching one ear which has now become red and inflammed (inside). Not deep inside the ear. I have looked into ear mites and do not think that this is the cause.

After applying an ear lotion for Debris / Mites and a cream for mild skin irritations he nol onger scratches at it, and it doesn't seem to bother him, although the area is still inflammed.

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused it?

Prehaps he'd brushed against a plant that had irritated him etc!

Thanks in advance!

I have already been on to the phone to the vets who suggested buying some over the counter treatments to see if they clear it up rather than rushing him down there!

the same thing happened to my puppy we thought it was some kind of earwig or grass bug that bit him but we took him to the vet and she saw nothing she said sometimes they get grass or Lil' pieces of debris in their ears. they need meds for it so your better off taking him in. its nothing serious but it is very uncomfortable for them.

Going to the vets is the best option but this could be costly. Try a local pet store as they might have the solution for you.In the meantime you could try bathing it with warm water as other substances could make the irritation worse.Good Luck and i hope your pup gets better soon...Bless him

Go to a vet for goodness sakes. It will cost less than a small tattoo would.

Couldn't say. When my dog has a problem he goes to a vet to get it sorted out.

... Wait a day or two before going to the vets! That's insane. Unless you have a few hundred dollars laying around that you don't mind needlessly spending.
