He will not starve himslef to death! Do not give him your food, it is very unhealthy for him. Feed him away from the cat (another room) and leave him to it. If he does not eat them just give him the food in the evening. Hes not going to eat dog food when he knows he will get some of yours...be firm and dont give in...;

Your dog needs TLC. He is probably jealous of the cat or something else happened that made him feel he is not wanted. He might also just be a spoilt brat, but who cares, our animals are precious. I believe an animal must have his food available 24 hours day. How do we know when they are hungry or not? Be that as it may, to each his own. Try for a few mornings greet him first, give him a huge hug and kiss, TALK to him, put his food in front of him, and then slowly walk off and feed the cat. There is nothing wrong with out food ONCE in a WHILE for animals, but it is a bit rich for them with all the junk we tend to eat. Basically I think the food is not the problem, it is more a case of your dear animal feels unwanted. So, there you do, some extra TLC will do the trick!!

do you leave the dog food down all day? Is his personality submissive to you? Is he well in himself otherwise?
First, it is correct that you should not feed a dog until AFTER you have eaten. Also you should be feeding a good quality premium food and leaving it for 15 minutes. If it remains uneaten after that time, remove it and do not give any other food until the next mealtime. There should be 2 meals a day also, as many dogs cannot eat a large amount in one go and sustain themselves properly. Follow the feeding guidelines carefully and do not overfeed. Try weighing out the food every day, and then divide it into 2 containers. If you want to give him treats in the day for training or rewards, take a kibble from the afternoon meal container, do not give other things as treats for a few days. Do not give human food, or table scraps, or add anything to the dog food as a good quality food is a complete food and should not be altered. Do not try to tempt him or he will always hold out for the human food. If you are in the US or US you should be able to get hold of Burns or Nature Diet. They are the 2 brands I highly recommend, if you really can't afford those, then there is one supermarket brand which is very cheap, and fish based, and extremely good quality, called Chappie, that is another brand I recommend. I did a diploma in canine nutrition as part of my dog trainer training, and after a lot of investigation into the ingredients and composition of various dog foods, those are the brands I accepted. Burns and Nature Diet only use human grade ingredients. Not only does my dog eat Burns, but my own human child grabbed and ate some aged about 1 year, and I was confident it would not harm her. I'd rather she ate it than some human junk!
A dog will not starve itself unless it is ill, and if he doesn't eat after 3 days, do take him to the vet and check him out. Sooner if he also isn't drinking water, or his behaviour changes at all. Should he become lethargic or wobbly, take him to the vet, but otherwise the only answer is to be tough and hold out. I know it is hard, but it is worth it, as dogs only become fussier if you let them.
Also don't keep chopping and changing brands to get him to eat, pick a good one and stick to it with the above method. It will work.

Dont feed him your food,this is proberly why he isn't eating his own food dogs are clever animals and if he thinks he acts sad and wont eat you will feed him your food.Dogs eat when there hungry,my own dog sometimes leaves her breakfast and then sometimes she will leave her dinner aswell,the next day she eats both dinners though.Most dogs will eat cat food but your right cat food is to rich and contains more protein.Try not to keep swapping dog foods aswell this can unsettle a dogs belly just keep to one good one like royal canin or eukanuba etc..Good luck.

Firstly how old is your dog? If he is getting on in years it could be that he is losing his sense of smell. My cat does exactly the same sulks..and will not eat. He is old so to get him to eat I make a fuss of him and then take him to his dish and standby him until he starts to eat. Worth a try with your dog. Also he is the king of his castle so put the rest outside whilst he eats.
Pets there're worse than children when it comes to food.I even have to draw the curtain across the door while my cat eats. I think he thinks someone is going to steal it away from him.

Haha, yes dogs sulk and hold grudges. It's quite funny. Our old dog Ruffy got really upset with us when we left for vacation for a week. She just sat in the corner and was not at all happy to see us. She got over it after a couple days. Just give him some time, he'll come around. He's just mad you left him. haha. :)

your dog is playing you. He wants your food so he has learnt to not eat his dog food and then you wil give in. Dogs are like kids they aren't as dumb as they seem.

It could be that your dog is depressed. So if I were you, I would consult a vet about this matter. I hope my answer helps you.
