There is no excuse for driving an uninsured vehicle. You and the owner of the vehicle are jointly liable for any damage caused. You should have called Emergency Services to have your friend taken to hospital by ambulance or you could have simply called a taxi.
In your situation, you are not entitled to get several quotes. Your only option is to pay up and make the problem go away. If you fail to do so quickly, both you and the vehicle's owner are very likely to have your license revoked until the damages are paid.
You're not even entitled to proof that the repairs are even being made. The vehicle owner is not obligated to have repairs made unless the vehicle is financed. That's between the other vehicle's owner and his finance company; it's not a matter of your concern.
Unfortunately it doesn't matter what your financial circumstances are. You are liable and MUST pay up quickly to keep your license and avoid further legal problems.

If they have already paid for it, unfortunately they don't have to give you another quote. Make sure you get proof that they did pay for it (cancelled check, credit card receipt - sometimes people say they paid for already to get that amount paid for)... You do have to pay that. You can set up a payment plan where you pay a little bit each month. The person whose car it is, is just as liable as you are as they are the owner of the car. If they were to sue you for the money, they could go after the owner as well. However since you were driving, you are the one at fault and should pay the bill. You can't get around it.
Again call and ask for a payment plan. Tell them how much you can afford each month, they will be willing to work with you to set up a reasonable plan.

What did the Police report say? Do not admit guilt. You may need a lawyer. I would also call the head office of the insurance company and find out that is going on. You may have to sue the bus company, and your insurance company. The bus company may was to offer a settlement. Did you go to the hospital after the accident? If not you should have. After this settled< I would check into finding a new insurance company.

I agree with Chris' answer. When you drive someone else's car, that car's insurance is primary to cover any resulting damage you may have caused. Should that car have no insurance but you do have a policy on a car you have, then your insurance would be secondary and cover the loss provided you're up to date on your premiums.

You will end up paying in the end, Even if you fight it which will take forever with paperwork etc, etc.
It will be a mess. Pay it off as soon as you can.
First check if the other car had a non insured vehicle on his policy. That might prolong the process some.

So the owner has no insurance, do you? That's where this should go if you do. If you don't then the other person uses his insurance, they pay off of their estimate and will go after you. No other estiamates or quotes are needed.
