You cannot install a old version ie., win98/ME/2000 to the already existing new version of operating system.
If you are in need of both the operating system to be installed that is "DUAL BOOTING", you follow the procedure below.
1. Backup the data that are needed for you.
2. Insert the win98 CD in the CDROM, then restart the system.
3. Choose the option to boot from CD ROM.
4. Now the system will start boot from CDROM. Choose the option "start computer with CD ROM support"
5. Now the system got booted in DOS Mode.
6. Find the folder in which you have installed winxp.
7. Delete the folder.
8. Now go to CDROM and run setup
9. It will install win98. (Note: if your harddrive is formatted with NTFS, Win98 cannot be installed. At this stage you can choose win2000 by replacing win98 CD with win2000 CD)
10. After installion of win98, if u want winXP, put the winXP CD in CDROM
11. It will ask whether to upgrade the older version of Operating system to XP or a fresh installation of XP
12. Choose fresh installation option.
13. After restarting of computer, while booting it gives you option to choose win98 or winxp.
14. Your problem gets solved now. Your system is now working with Dual booting.

Only way to do it Dude is to start over ... install the older Operating Systems First ... e.g 98 before 2000 and 2000 before XP
Otherwise the last Operating System installed will overwrite your Master Boot Record (MBR) and how would Windows 98 know how to load XP???
