I realise this subject is highly controversial, but where exactly did the dislike of Iraq begin? Was it Bush SR.? I need help for an essay.

To understand the Iran problem you have to realise that it is a fairly modern country, cobbled together after World War I from disparate parts of the defeated Ottoman Empire. The Kurds, even then did not want to be part of an Arabic state. The country was governed by the UK between the wars under a 'League of Nations Mandate'. We made quite a hamsfisted job of it and there were as many problems, deaths etc., then as there are now (when will we ever learn...) After WW2 the country was granted independence and was a monarchy, which like many such in the region at the time was pretty corrupt. Eventually that monarchy was overthrown, the US and UK weren't overly happy with that as it was the time of the cold war and all nationalist movements such as this were seen as communist inspired and a threat to western interests - those interest being, as always, oil. Eventually the Ba'athist Party, and the Saddam Hussein took absolute power/ I think the asker is wrong to refer to the 'dislike' of Iraq - it is more a question of concern for oil supplies
