Montagny in Burgundy is the only appellation where all 40 producers are grand cru, and they are white. It is impossible to rate just one, but if you go to a book shop, and get Tom Stevenson's Sotheby's wine book and look up the Burgundy section (don't buy it ,it is @£40) and see what there is and then off to a decent wine store. For this do not go to any supermarket, as you are unlikely to find the buyer, so you are only getting a talkie, which for £20 is not what you want. If not Burgundy then try Alsace, in the north east of France a they have spectacular wines and the winemakers to look for are Hugel or Dopff, one of their Rieslings or Gewurztraminers is really the "mutts nuts" and will go superbly with Salmon

Why French? Australian wines are the best in the world! Less expensive and definitely far superior in quality. Try one!

Here's a list of Tim Atkin's best wines of 2006, he tasted 10,000 to get there so there should be some good ones!
For £20 you should be able to get something really special.

Chatenouf de Papes. There are several labels of this that are in that price range and you can't go wrong with this wine.
