It varies widely. It is just like asking someone how he prepares his fish for a meal.
Much depends on how the parents themselves were brought up by their own parents, and the social mix they have themselves.

While, in India there is serious believe in love and respect. The others are respect of values, tradition, culture and customs as well. But all this are seen by the children. Importantly, thier films are of great importance to the good behaviour of indian children.
love is clearly shown, there is absence of arguments in children presence and most marrieges are based on love and truth.
in essence copy alot from parents and the Ghandi pictures and status remain a remainder for children to be principle, respected, and practice good behaviour

Simply by setting an example. Children everywhere in the world simply imitate their parents. Indian parents as everyone else teach behaviour to their children by their own behaviour. Behaviour, whether good or bad is always imitated by the children. If the parents behave badly, the children learn bad behaviour and vice versa. Spanking them or telling them not to do something won't work as long as the parents keep doing it themselves. If the parents don't do it, there is no need to spank or tell the kids not to do it. Simple!

As an Indian, my parents whope my butt if I misbehaved. If you do it like most of what the Americans do (just by them saying "don't do that again), then these children will not be disciplined. Why is it that most of the American children are out of control? Most of them are not disciplined. Also, teach the child right way of doing things after disciplining them. It will benefit them from ever making the mistakes. Also, teach your children to respect elders, teachers and other people who will have great influences in their lives. It will make them a better citizens wherever they live.
