English should be the national language. I'm not saying people can't speak other languages at all; I speak German with my mother and sister all the time. I'm saying everyone who comes to this country should know the language. It's only right!!
We should not have to press 1 for English when we call businesses or companies. We should not have Spanish TV or radio stations. Why?? Millions of other immigrants who came to the US have learned English, it should be that way for all immigrants.

I do think that if people want to live here, they need to know our language. I work in social services and when I have Spanish speaking clients, we have a horrible time trying to communicate. I can speak German and some French, but very little Spanish. It would be to the benefit of immigrants to learn English, but some refuse to do so. My wife is a teacher and has students who won't speak English in the classroom, even though they can. Makes no sense to me.

When English is the official language, it just means that documents and such will be in English. It doesn't mean that there will be no more signs with English and Spanish or Spanish markets and things like that. Those will still be there.

Kind of a vague question. There are so many different types of people in America. If you are asking that any person wanting to become a US citizen should learn our Language to become an American, the answer is yes. That should be a qualification to become a Citizen.

yes, I think when people around me speak in a foreign language, i feel that they may be talking about me.....It's kinda like walking into a room and people are whispering until they see you.....its very uncomfortable......english only would get my vote in a heartbeat. but i think they could only enforce it in business....

How would you do that? Make it illegal to speak another language? Cut all bilingual programs in schools? Or also cut foreign language instruction?

You see, when "English only" is discussed, it's very important to define in what sorts of rules or policies your talking about BEFORE the discussion goes any farther.
