You MUST tell the dentist of any medication your on.
Some completely harmless substances turn dangerous when they come into contact with other chemicals and just not taking it that day will not guarantee anything.
Don't be embarrassed. They have seen it all before.

If he uses any kind of opiate or opioid to sedate you, then don't take your methadone the day of the visit. If he uses a benzodiazepene like Valium, take half of your normal dosage of methadone. Those are the only situations where you shouldn't take it like you regularly would. Otherwise, don't worry about it and just take your methadone like normally. If he uses a disassociative anesthetic like nitrous oxide to sedate you, you'll be fine taking methadone. If he uses novocaine, you'll be fine taking methadone. If he uses cocaine packs and you happen to ingest it, you'll be extra fine!
DO NOT TELL HIM you're on methadone maintenance. I'm speaking from personal experience here. If your doctor finds out you're a former addict, he'll be reluctant to give you adequate sedation. That's a problem because as a former addict your tolerance requires you need MORE painkillers in order for them to be effective. Telling your dentist you're a former addict means he'll probably give you LESS. I made that mistake prior to getting surgery. They ended up giving me the bullsh*t sedatives and I woke up in the middle of surgery. That's about as much fun as it sounds.
Like I said, the only risk you face is if he uses opiates or benzodiazepenes to sedate you. Call him and ask what specific drugs he'll use to sedate you. That's not a weird question for a patient to ask a doctor. Make sure you know specifics like whether he's using morphine, Valium, etc. Then contact your methadone clinic and ask them. If he's only using dental anesthetics (nitrous oxide, novocaine, cocaine packs, etc.) then you'll be fine.

Tell your dentist, if you're sedated AND have taken your methadone you could go over. Your dentist won't care about the methadone, he just needs to know so he can do his job properly.

You should still take the meth,if you don't you will be rattling in the dentist chair and that's not good! You probably have a tolerance to sedatives anyway due to your addiction. Also if you go in withdrawing, the painkilling injection may not be as effective. I'm sure medical advice would tell you not to take it and to tell your dentist everything but they aren't the ones that have to do it!

I would quietly mention it to your dentist just to be sure, you dont want to be off with the fairies for hours on end. He wont/ cant treat you any differently & for the fact your on methadone looks better than saying you on the real stuff!
Leave it out for today maybe though yeah.

You do need to tell someone. Because the interaction of the two may not be good. Ask your doctor as he must have put you on the Methadone. Congratulations and Good luck

Yeah probably best not to. If you need any work done they might give you some novocaine.
However doctors and dentists are sometimes reluctant to give recovering drug addicts more drugs.
Sometimes mixing you're drugs can f**k you up and you don't want to have to explain why to the dentist if anything weird happens.

you should always tell your dentist if you're on any type of medication.he's not gonna judge you cos you're a recovering smackhead.personally,i don't know if it's safe to take your meth and be sedated, but if you don't tell him,and something goes wrong, then he could be held responsible.by the way, don't know what dosage you're on,but try to reduce and get on subutex,it's much better.
