I rarely get to sleep at a decent hour. I don't drink any caffeine after 12, no sodas either, but i find myself still laying awake in bed at 4 in the morning... Any advice on falling asleep or relaxation to get tired?

I have had this problem since I was a child. I have found exercising has helped by getting some of the nervous energy out. I first started by taking, Melatonin, it is an over the counter natural supplement. Also passion flower tea, also over the counter. This helps to relax you. Make sure you are in a relaxed environment. You only use your room for sleep and intimacy. Relaxation yoga also helps. Also try reading in bed.
As you can see it is 2am and I am up. I'm having an off day. But I have had this problem since I was about 8 years old. I am 30 now and take prescription medication. I take Lunesta 3mg and works GREAT! I just don't want to take it tonight. But it does work.
Hope this helps and know if it doesn't there are many many prescription medications you can try that are non addicting.

I have the same problem. I tried drinking no caffeine, excercising and deep breathing exercises- nothing worked. Finally, I broke down and bought an over-the-counter sleep aid and in 30 minutes I was sleeping like a baby. I woke up so refreshed the next morning. Now, I have no problems going to sleep and I only have to take the aid once every 2 weeks or so.

i have same problem. just try to do things to keep yourself busy instead of just laying in bed for hours doing nothing but thinking about not being able to sleep. get out of bed and try working out or try watching a boring movie. i went to walmart one night and bought a video from the kids sections called The Care Bears Bedtime Stories, and it was made for kids to watch at bedtime to make them fall asleep and it totally works on me when i watch it lol. It's definitely worth a try and it was only like $5-10.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

I have no problems taking medication, so I use Lunesta and it works great.
Forcing yourself to get up early would help as well because then your body will want to adjust.

that is too funny you are asking all of us other insomniacs this....like we know.......lol
but really, i think we were living on the other side of the world in our last life, and this lifetime we cant sleep on this pattern,,,,
Go to the other side of the planet,,,,,,,you will sleep at night there....i did.........
now really, i think it has to do with rest from the busy world, it is so chaotic during the day, it is so peaceful, and no work can be done, just alone with our thoughts and the moon telling us secrets that no one else knows......it is great,,,,,,
untill i have to work tommorow, and i am a zombie.....
