The anus is full of nerve endings, in both males and females. It can be a very exciting erogenous zone for both, once you get over the social stigma attached to anything to do with anything anal. This shouldn't trouble you. A lot of men stick something into their anus while masturbating. It's absolutely normal and does not mean he is either gay or bisexual. By sticking something in there you stimulate the prostate which can be very pleasurable for the man.
Some do, some don't. It doesn't mean anything. And as long as you don't feel uncomfortable with it, go ahead.
