Like any traditional literature, there is a different genre and different study method needed to understand them.
For example, poem will need a different one from history text. Frictional story will need a different one from detective work. Etc.
Certain text we can use word for word, certain text cannot. How should we know which one? Easy, treat them as any literature text, and study the back ground books. Compare with the historical text written about the same time, and we will be able to understand them better.
One common mistake is, we often use our own culture and understanding to interpreted text which is written so long ago. It does not always work that way.
So, in the bible, there are 66 books written by 40 writers over 1500 years, all having the same theme of God’s plan for us.
As for quoting, well, we have often seen them in the news, in that, a person may say a lot, and the reporters just quote a few words to twist the entire meaning. Same goes here. People may quote certain portion of the bible to twist the entire meaning, which is not inconsistent with the entire theme.
One of the examples is Luke 14:26 “If any one comes to me without hating his father 7 and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” People often use this verse to say that Jesus teaches hatred.
However, there are many other passages in the entire bible that Jesus taught us to love, and to love sacrificially. But those wanted to discredit Jesus’ teaching will not mention that.
The greatest commandment the Jesus gave is the summary from the 10 commandment; first to love God, next is to love your neighbour as ourselves.
What Jesus emphasis was not to hate. In his teaching in that chapter, he is correcting people’s motive to follow him. Teaching them what it means to be believer and disciple, which is different. But if one do not read it in context, or the text before and after, one will miss the mark.
So, coming back to quotation from the Bible, I have seen a lot of miss-quoting many time. Mostly by those non-believer to discredit Jesus’ teaching. Well, it is impossible to stop them. All I hope is, people will investigate for themselves and find out the truth.
God bless.

The Bible says that it is the word of God.
If that is true, than what the Bible says will be correct.
The Bible tells about the Hittite Empire.
Until around 1900 people had no archaeological evidence that there were even any Hittites, let alone an Empire. But there is much evidence now.
The Bible says that man and dinosaurs lives together.
Evolution says that there were millions of years between man and dinosaurs.
There are places where there are human and dinosaur footprints in the same rock that show we lived together.
The Bible also gives us spiritual evidence. It says that God would give people spiritual gifts. And in most Pentecostal and Apostolic Christian churches you will find people with some of them.
Since we know that the Bible is right about these (and many other things) we than must realize that it is God's Word to us, and though we do not understand the rest of the Bible, we can have faith that it is true as well.

i don't think the bible is a valid argument for anything because its so broad that the versus could really mean anything. and its only a book made by man its the views of men there is no real why to say that it is god inspired i could write a some crazy thing on a piece of toilet paper and say its gods words and then quot it for every time i don't get my way or get in a tight spot. the fact of the matter is so what if it has historical facts in it there is no proof that it is what everyone claims it to be sooo no it should not be used as an argumentative tool because it has no real authority except to the ones who follow it and not everyone in the world is a bible hugger (no offense to anyone meant by this answer)

The Bible and Koran are a handbook or clientele' handbook for the Earth in 'the way' and that they coach us the way we could be so we are in a position to stay in team spirit with all of us else interior the international and not reason anybody else or ourselves any pointless soreness or suffering. by using the years, there has been many non secular communities and cult firms telling us that the international is going to end and that they are dazzling approximately that. The Books that have been given to us by using The Ruler of the Universe, as a handbook and clientele' handbook for planet Earth, let us know that the international is going to end, they even say while and how the top would be. regrettably those religions and cult communities have mis-understood Earth's classes / clientele' Manuals and instructed us that if we do not have confidence their non secular interpretation of them, we'd rather be tortured and die. because of the religions' and cult communities' mis-foremost suggestions, human beings have been aggravating far off from The clientele' Manuals and don't prefer to have something to do with them or anybody who even mentions their names any further. that's incredibly unlucky because of the fact the classes / clientele' Manuals incorporate the considered necessary suggestions that all of us in the international desires to be waiting to stay at the same time in team spirit, with out hurting one yet another or the Earth we proceed to exist. Now that basically some human beings study The Manuals, and no-one looks to comprehend them, no person knows the thank you to look after one yet another or the Earth 'the way' we could consistently any further and consequently we are all working all day, daily in direction of our very own destruction.

I'm guessing you're not religious. (I'm Jewish, btw). Anyway, I personally don't quote the bible, but I can see why people would. It's because according to us, the Bible IS the only way to live. We live by the bible - it's our manuscript of life. We believe the bible is divine and it comes from G-d.
Humans are smart. But we're also finite. Our intellect only reaches to a certain point. However, we believe that G-d is infinite, thus He has infinite wisdom.
If someone is confronted with a challenge, he or she will usually use his or her own logic. However, since we believe that G-d's logic is infinite and overwhelmingly better than ours, we should quote Him instead! The bible, according to us, is His word, so that's why we quote it.

The Bible is a work of fiction. Middle Eastern tales and legends like the Bible are sotimes interesting and pleasant to read but they are just that, works of fiction. They are not intended to be used as valid arguments , explanations or guidance.
Using tales and legends for that would be symptomatic of mental disorder.

Bible quotes cannot be used because the quotes are used to support what they believe and what they see in the quote. Everyone interprets everything a different way.
