Christmas is directly related to pagan practices based upon the supposed birth of an ancient divinity from a rock. The matter was then related to Jesus Christ's birth when important Roman rulers supposedly converted to Christianism, and this some 300 yrs after Christ. So why do many Christian denominations celebrate that day if it is embracing pagan's faith?

They celebrate it for a different reason than Pagans. It's okay. It is a time to be jolly and generous. What's the harm?

Get over yourself!

Christmas was changed to December by the ENGLISH!!! It was a ruler of England who was a practicing Pegan who respected Christian's right to worship as they chose who told the Christians that if they wanted to celebrate the birth of Jesus they could do it in December when the Pegans celebrated the Winter Solstace. This is because Christians were celebrating the birth of Christ just after the Jews observed Passover (Mary and Joseph were going to the City of David to pay their taxes which were due every year at Passover.) This helped the Christians seperate their celebrations from the Jews' celebrations.

You can celebrate Christmas! Just because you use some of our traditions doesn't mean you're celebrating our holiday! We'll celebrate Yule on our own, thank you very much! If you want to share the holiday, we have no problem.

And frankly, I think the idea of embracing, tolerating, and educating oneself about other faiths is a GOOD thing.

Edit: David T, that was uncalled-for. We don't WANT any power over you. We just want you to stop being pompous and arrogant and ignorant about our religion. We are a peaceful group-- why do you have to make us out to be terrible people?

i do not celebrate the Secular Christmas. I celebrate creation, the Nativity, Christmas (all 12 days) and Epiphany. i'd provide out some provides, yet there is no tree or some thing like that. i love this kind a lot extra perfect because it truly is for the most area rigidity free compared to the secular counterpart.

well the holiday was adopted by constantine as an attempt to merge the pagans and christians to simplify conversion. It has since been a tradition apparently. That is one reason the jehovahs witnesses do not celebrate it. I happen to be Pagan, and knowing the roots, it does strike me kind of odd...but the truth of the matter is that what matters is WHAT you are celebrating. Blessings to you this many holiday season!

I think that we could still celebrate Christmas, if we would do it in a respectful and though full manner.

No Santa Clause, reindeer, Frosty etc...

Families would spend time together and read the Christmas story from the Bible, they would go to church to be in HIS house on the day we celebrate HIS birth.

I think people could still give a gift or tow, but the point of the day is Jesus!

Why not? I do not see any problem with taking a good idea (in this case a pagan holiday) and changing it a little to fit your ideals and culture. That is how cultures progress, they borrow good ideas from other cultures, change them a bit to suit some different needs.

It always good to recognize and understand the past.

Should we stop using our number system that was invented by the Indians for calculus, because the Indians hadn't invented it? Newton used a good idea that helped to explain something else in an other cultural and changed it a bit to create modern calculus.

I dont. He was born during Jewsih festival of booths late sept/early october.

I celebrate Hanukkah, I am Christian. I do gather with my family for dinner, but for fellowship, not to worship a tree, pagans or santa.

Remeber, you can and should celebrate Jesus every day. Dec 25 should be no different. Pagan days have no power over us.

Blessings
David

we don't celebrate the pagan holiday, we celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. if that happens to be on the same day as a pagan thing, oh well. it's also sometimes on the same day as Chanukah (I don't know how to spell that) but we don't light monorahs or anything.

I am a Christian.....and as the years have gone by, I dislike all that Christmas has to offer.People being nice....for what!
Spending way way too much....and people getting drunk. Then there are those who?...if you asked them about Christmas? They would say its about presants and santa.....
Not much about JESUS.
Plus...even GAP have done away with Him! this year.Staff not suppose to say, Merry Christmas...?
We no longer have a tree
We no longer have a big meal...in fact! my kids don't really get into it......And?...they are not great followers of the church.
I hate santa!! with a passion.............I LOVE JESUS......and
we just have a small meal, to remember Jesus.
Come 7.p.m....I say''Thank goodness its over for another year''...
