Chid Abuse laws and Child Safety Social Workers have made people AFRAID to punish children for naughty behavior with anything but "time out" which the children learn nothing from and use to recharge their batteries so they can create more havoc, leaving parents numb from being ineffeftive and causing them to give up because there isn't anything else they can do to stop the ill mannered behavior.
OCS and law makers say these laws are neccessary, to prevent abuse and to stop abused children from becoming criminals. Of course, they can't understand why crimes commited by children have increased by nearly 800% and real child abuse hasn't decreased at all since these laws were inacted decades ago, especially since the renowned "Dr. Spock" of child rearing expertise (who had NO Children of his own for experience when he wrote his book) said these laws were needed and a gentler hand in child rearing would prevent most criminal behavior! Go figure!
My parents spanked me and I spanked my children. There are no hardened criminals in my family. Just a few have lead feet when it comes to driving! Still, only two out of fourteen have even a speeding ticket! Wonder why?!!!! We were taught to respect - people and property! When we didn't momma reminded us, very firmly but without damage to anything but our pride.
Check out web sites for law reformation! We need to teach our children now, before any other "babies" kill someone elses "baby." Think about it, people. It's up to all of us and if we don't like how our children are turning out, it's our own fault for not changing the laws!

Children running wild is terrible. It depends on how the parents react to it...are they as frustrated as you are? I feel bad for them sometimes - they just want to 'get out' and have to take the kids with them. But hey, I said sometimes. When I'm not so sympathetic I wonder what in the world they are teaching their kids. My kids aren't even supposed to talk, let alone engage with, the other people in the restaurant. It's hard to teach them that strangers are bad if you allow them to interact with them all the time. It's not safe for kids to be running around - for anyone - and especially in a restaurant.

I've noticed that. When I was a child, I was afraid of stepping out of line. With my own children, they know to respect others or we leave. My kids enjoy eating in restaurants, and if they want to continue, they know to sit there, eat and be quiet. They know that if they step out of line, or get loud, either their dad or I take them out to the car so the others can finish their meal. They don't want to be left out, so they behave.
Many people just don't care to discipline their kids and it's sad.

The problem now a days is that you can't threaten or punish your child in public with out the fear of someone calling Child services on you. Not to mention kids can only learn the proper way to act in public if they are allowed to mess up in public as well.
