I am a Protestant. I was just reading the modern Catholic Church's interpretations of what the Seven Deadly Sins and their opposing Virtues entail, and I thought that what they advocated was a pretty good... 'guide' if you will to what is right and wrong from a Christian perspective. I'd even go so far as to say that the way these interpretaitions advocate living one's life pretty much sums up a large part of the ethos of what it is to be a Christian. I was just wondering what the opinions of other Protestants (be they Evangelical/Baptist/Methodist/Lutheran whatever) were on this matter?

Once you are saved you are no longer a sinner but a saint. Jesus has put you inside of Him seated together with Him before the Father in heaven (Ep 2:6). When we are in Christ Jesus we are no longer under condemnation (Rom 8:1). God will not impute sin on us who are saved (Rom 4:8). Believers are dead to sin (in God's eyes) because they are crucified in Christ (Rom 6:2, 6). Believers have God's righteousness in Christ (2 Cor 5:21). Believers are saints (not sinners) saved by grace. God desires that believers be conscious of their righteousness in Christ and not their sins. It is only when believers know they have the abundant of grace and the gift of righteousness that they reign in life (and over sin) (Rom 5:17). Christians should therefore be conscious of their righteousness in Christ and not be sin conscious to have victory over their sins. Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Well I read the bible regularly and the 7 is not in our bibles. They are purely cathlic. The KJV bible says all sins are the same in the eyes of god and the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the holy ghost but also according to KJV the punishment for all sin is death anyway. Mabe thats why some of the great figures of the bible lived so long. Anyway I believe that the bible tells use how to live by itself. No man can teach you more about being a christian better than the word of god himself hince the bible.

Life by the Spirit
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Personally I feel that the Catholic church came up with these extra rules to squeeze more guilt into people. But as you say, these are a good guide to clean Christian living.

But on the other hand, that's what the ten commandments were for....

The Seven Deadly Sins, and the Seven virtues.

Were they black soul/gospel bands of the 1950's?
