I've had sucess using a natural very cheap product. Corn silk is available from the healthfood shop. I boil a cup of water with 1 tsp of cornsilk for 1 minute. Then drink it as a cup of tea, and do this about 3 x a day. So far it has worked like a charm and very quickly. It tastes fine as well. Most healthfood shops have naturpaths which can give advice on this, and maybe other methods as well.

The most commonly prescribed prescription is Bactrim DS or Cipro. I don't know that you can get this medication without a prescription. They're both antibiotics, and used to treat the infection. Usually doctors prefer you leave a specimen of urine to be tested to be sure you have an infection before you're treated, that way they can be sure that's what they're treating, and you don't have some other infection (such as vaginitis or something else). Also, they like to send off the sample for what is called a culture and sensitivity. This usually takes a few days to get back but enables them to be sure they treated you with the proper drug. Most times, the above mentioned drugs cover most common infections in the urinary tract, but sometimes, there are infections that aren't covered by those, and need to be treated with other medications. There is no way to know this unless you have a culture and sensitivity done on your urine sample. The only other way you'd know is if you continue to have symptoms while on the medication or your symptoms get worse, and progress into a more serious infection that would move up into your kidney(s) called pyelonephritis. To prevent this from occuring it is recommended that you always see a doctor when you think you may have this type of infection for proper treatment, especially if you have a chronic problem. If she can go see a doctor in the next day or so, she can try using medications sold over the counter, such as uristat, to help with the discomfort caused by a UTI. This is NOT to get rid of the infection, and in no way does it stop the infection or prevent it from getting worse. It only helps to relax the bladder a bit, and decrease the discomfort caused by the infection. Drinking cranberry juice also helps to change the ph in the urine which is also believed to help decrease the spread or increase of the UTI as well (it will NOT take away the infection it only makes the urine more basic and makes the bacteria have a more difficult time thriving). Whatever you decide to do, good luck! :-)

The symptoms your describing sound like a urinary tract infection (UTI) It does cause frequent urination, pressure, burning, urinating small amouts are all symptoms of UTI. Due to the infection and irritation you may get some blood with and after urination. Drink lots of water (at least 36ounces) daily. Also, cranberry juices is good for UTI's mix half water and half cranberry juice. They do sell medication for discomfort over the counter, just check any pharmacy. if your symptoms dont improve in a couple days you should see your doctor an antibiotic may be needed.

All antibiotic drugs require prescriptions. Some books recommend: Uva ursi 250 mg 4x daily; D-mannose 500 mg 4x daily; Cranberry extract 400-500 mg 2x daily; Horsetail herb 500 mg 4x daily; and Vitamin C 1000 mg 4-5x daily. Eating yogurt daily may help. Avoid all refined sugars which weaken the immune system. See Prescription For Natural Cures by Balch & Stengler for a good discussion and more suggestions.

Holyhipo has it right, and she can drink some cranberry juice and tons of water but she needs that medication, no, not on line, she needs to see a doc. She needs to keep up with her water intake or and cranberry juice or tablets to help prevent new ones and shower herself with non perfume soap like castile. If she has them repeadly, she needs a doc to find out why this is happening to make sure it is not her pancreas. My niece had them way too much and got really sick, very ill, it was her pancreas. I wish her luck. Those things are miserable! Worse than a tooth ache!
