Here are some great websites for improving yourself:
Help in setting goals, deciding what to do with your life, getting organized: www.franklincovey.com.
Help in making new friends, learning leadership, speaking to people: www.toastmasters.org.
Here are some great books:
Changing the way you think: cybernetics, by Dr. Maxwell.
Being able to pursue goals: Think and Grow Rich, N. Hill
Being successful in life as well as work: The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People, S. Covey
Hope that helps.

first step... one must know his/her own shortcomings. you cannot improve yourself without knowing what's wrong with you, or without knowing which areas you need to improve on, or without readilly admitting that you have any shortcomings.
second step... don't fear change. you will have to change a thing here and a thing there about yourself. but if you're afraid to make a change or if you think that you're already perfect the way you are, then there's no point in pursuing a self-improvement program.
third step... take the plunge. start making gradual efforts in improving yourself (i.e. changing the way you dress, improving the way you behave in public, changing your biological clock to improve your attendace at work/class, etc.)
...i hope this helps. this is what i continually practice on a daily basis. i find that in everything i do, there's always room for improvement.

Your self ....the ATMA is pure and perfect. You cannot burn it in fire or anything. The best way to know about yourself is read the Bhagavat Gita, you dont need to be spiritual, read it from a materialistic view. You will learn a lot.

Forget it. It is a lost cause. (And I am the best example of that.) Because you are doomed to be only the self you were born with, the self your mother and father made you, and . . . it's also up to your genes, the Real Bosses of Life. Just lie back and surrender to Their Royal Will.
