I had a tape jammed, I managed to get the tape out after unplugging the VCR and opening the lid, but the basket is still stuck and the VCR keeps shutting down after I turn the power on. How can I fix it w/o taking it to a repair shop? I presume it's still fixable as I don't think I broke anything. I was able to left the tape up and slid it out.

I had this happen on mine and it was the drive gear for the basket to go up and down. My original one was plastic and the replacement was metal, so I guess I wasn't the only one with the problem.

If you think you can take it apart and look for the broken gears, then it can save you a lot of money (my replacement was under $10). But if you don't know how or don't have the time to waste ordering the part, waiting for it to come in, going to get it, and then installing it yourself, go for the new one.

Replacing the VCR is now usually cheaper than even a one hour shop charge. Although this is a sad state of affairs because it wastes components, your best bet is to buy a new one and turn in the old one to an electronics recycling depot.

All i'm able to think of of is this, the machines tend to get warm as quickly as they have been on for awhile and been working. So via ejecting them facilitates the device to quiet down via circulating air in fringe of them. i comprehend that is authentic with tapes , additionally with tapes it take the tape out of the tape course temper, that's the place the tape wraps around the heads via a chain of pulleys and stuff and likewise shall we the device cool off.

Try unplugging it and then plugging it back in. It will reset and possibly work again. I had that problem before and this worked.
