Women aren't respected as much as they used to? I mean, they used to be the dominant sex, until the christian religion came along and women were called witches. Why don't people just accept them as the dominant role in society again?

you are correct of course, anyone studying ancient religious history knows that women played predominant roles in religion. Shamans used to be ShaWomen for the most part. In Siberia female shamans still outnumber male shamans. Women were in charge of the growing of beer and wine, hence the world alewives, who were tasked with the religious growing of ale and beer. Women tended the grapes to make wines. Men were in charge of war, but women were the politicians and religious leaders.
It is hard to change the inertia of the society we have have today. Look how hard it has been to over throw the stereotypes that were invented to classify anyone who is not European or European descent as being an inferior type of human being. And that thought only came into existence 250 years ago! Until then, it didn't matter what your colour was, you were treated as a human being. Then Bang, if you are from certain areas of the world, you are a savage. Never mind that you may have had ancestors who could operate successfully on eyes, that they had invented banks, letters of credit and all the things we take for granted as being European descent inventions and advances. Instead, after the Italians introduced Rhinderpest to Africa which subsequently killed 95% of the cattle the human population lived on, and then 97% of the humans who lived there starved to death, completely ruining the civilisations that were there, the people were then considered savages, and should be kept as slaves to 'improve' their lives.
So, how are we going to change 3500 years with of inertia?

Dear centril,
i think you are expressing an opinion that is not very founded. Women have gained more and more respect with each passing year-- look at the workforce, politicians, etc.
Additionally to blame the Christian religion for the lack of equality between men and women (In terms of societal standards) is not fair. There are many countries such as Japan, the middle East where woman are not treated with as much respect as men and these are countries which are less than 1% Christian. I agree with you that woman don't get as much respect as they deserve from society at large- but i don't think it's Christianity's fault (if you knew the gospel that Jesus taught He showed woman a lot of dignity). If you want to attack Christianity than please do so directly- instead of blaming a social ill on Christianity.
Kindly,
Nickster

It would be really great if you would do a bit more studying before you come out and make a complete idiot out of yourself. You are completely ignorant of it all. There were so many women in the Christian movement, when it first started. A woman was the one to first carry the message that Jesus had rose from the dead..it wasn't started by any man..it was started by God!

They weren't respected more back then either. They were never the dominant sex in the western civilization.
the ancient greek (hellenic)society was a patriarchal society and the base of modern western civilization.
But I have to agree with you on the fact that religion made it worse.

This is what the bible says about women:
Ecclesiastes 9:9--Live joyfully with the wife WHOM THOU LOVEST all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Colossians 3:19--Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Ephesians 5:25-- Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
Ephesians 5:28--Even so husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:31--For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
Ephesians 5:33-- However, let each man of you love his wife as his very own self
Passages like that were a revolution in the ancient world. Women had less real value than a good horse. Wives were for cleaning house, having babies, raising your kids and for a little sexual pleasure(although in the ancient world many had a mistress for that). But no religion actually commanded you to love your wife. That was a new thing in the ancient world. These commands to love your wife were revolutionary ideas in the ancient world.

Women are actually revered in the bible. I can't remember what part it is in, but there's a whole chapter that talks about how men are supposed to treat their wives.
