I have severe to moderate upper back and neck pain since I was in high school. I have seen a few doctors about it but all they do is give me pain pills and often see nothing wrong. I have seen a few chiropractors as well consistantly, which helps for maybe a day but when I wake up the next morning I'm in pain again. I am 23 years old and it already has progressed to a state that it will at times interfere with normal everyday activities and now it is starting to effect my shoulders (it almost feels like they are slightly out of joint and pinching a nerve and the pain just shoots down my arm). I am very petite; 5'4'' and weigh 103pds so I know it's not a weight issue and It is not caused by large breasts either. Does anyone know any doctors, exercises, or surgeries I could look into. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advise would be greatly appreciated : )

I have seen a chiropractor regularly, it makes the pain go away temporarly. My adjustment never stays no matter how regularly I go, it always goes back to the way it was about 24hrs after the adjustment.

You need to find a chiropractor who stresses home stretching for the troubled area. There is a defined postural discrepancy and it is not being given the proper care presently.

Would suggest you call around and find a DC who has you doing most of the work to bring about relief from this problem. If those muscles (which are unequal in length and density) are not equalized, the correction will hold only as long as it takes you to walk back home. To have that much problem at your age indicates you have an anatomical problem that has not been recognized and taken care of. It has become a chronic condition and the line between acute and chronic is easily crossed.

Should you want any further information, don't hesitate to contact me. There are many tests that can be conducted sight unseen.

I have what you describe and I have had a lot of physical therapy. It helps that moment but then it all returns. Have you tried a muscle relaxer like Flexeril? This can get the tightness and pulling feeling to go away especially at night. If you feel like you cannot take it, get a towel and roll it then use it as a neck brace by duct taping it into place. It will keep your head still and support your head off of your neck for a while. You have probably tried Celebrex, and maybe some seizure medicine like Gabitril. I think massage works well but it is so expensive and the relief does not last long. I will be reading your answers to learn something new. Best of luck to you and Merry Christmas!!

yes off course.
first you may concern a doctor.my mom has been through this too.just rotate ur neck in an anti clockwise manner and after 30 seconds rotate it in clockwise manner.just try this for a month or two you will surely get some good results.in consultation to your back pain you can take a steamed towel and ask someone to rub it against your back.i m sure you will be happy with this suggestion.

Sounds like you're really suffering, sorry.

You may be in need of a better mattress and pillow, I recommend the 'memory foam' type, with the pillow 'shaped' to fit your neck for better support. You may also want to consider acupuncture treatments. Good luck.

Yep, you need a CHIROPRACTOR. I am married to one. You need an adjustment. But not just when it hurts... get REGULAR visits. Have them take xrays too.

Go see one girlie.
