I think that you should do some more research on this. Bin Laden was in fact trained by the CIA, such that they could defeat the Soviets in Afganistan. That of course caused the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The Afghan Mujahadeen did not fight one of the world's mightiest armies with some old Kalashinikovs and rocket launchers, they had some powerful support.
That's why, NATO forces are having a hard time catching him.
Note that everything I have said is not something the US media would say. Call me paranoid, but that is the truth. Do your research on the Internet, there are tons on information on such matters, and do not base your conclusions on the US media. They don't conclude anything.

Having once been associated with an unnamed powerful covert agency (There are 15 of them, so don't waste your time trying to guess), I can tell you from experience that the community is not equipped to hunt down and kill or capture Bin Laden (With deference to Jessica, the military is so equipped, but the intel community is not). Surprisingly, their corporate culture is not conducive to covert operations.
Their idea of hunting bad guys is to hire more analysts at headquarters in D.C. When they run out of room in the HQ building, they just bring trailers onto the compound and fill up the trailers with more analysts whose days consist of sending IM's to each other and making excuses as to why it's a bad idea to mount a covert operation to catch a bad guy. Then, it's time to go home and come back the next day and do the same thing.
If we're ever going to defeat this enemy, we need to reduce the intel community's workforce by 50 percent, then send the other 50 percent into the field to do the dirty work. Sipping Starbucks and staring at a computer terminal all day is no way to find OBL.

If only it were that simple. Actually it is.
The world's most powerful covert agency doesn't WANT to find him. Simply because it would only raise more questions than Bush would be willing to answer. And I think bin Laden knows a few things that Bush would rather keep secret.
So as long as there's bin Laden then there'll always be something for this administration to attempt to hold over our heads.

He could very well be dead. We have no way of knowing if he is or isn't though. If he is alive, I don't know if he'll ever be caught. His health and physical wellbeing have been in question for quite some time. I think it's more likely that he is alread dead or will die before we catch him.

If is sounds so easy to you JO why don't you come on over and show us how??? Or is it just easier so sit on the couch like Al Bundy and gripe. The mountains are higher than the rockies and steeper. About 1/100th the roads as the Rockies. Over 70,000 sq miles of mountains, and that is just in RC East. Not to mention the rest of Afghanistan and then Pakistan which we can't go into. One BCT to cover all that? Yep, it is easy. We are really over here working on out tans............... Sign up and come show us how..........

Bush is too busy with the war on Iraq that he doesn't have time to deploy more troops to Afghanistan.

heathboy2 has it right. bush and co. don't want to catch bin laden for two reasons: bin laden does know way too much for this administration to let it be brought out in public, and bush has such strong ties to the saudi's that he doesn't dare interrupt bin ladens agenda.
